Chai Masala

 Chai masala is a fragrant spice blend used to make masala chai (spiced tea). It typically includes a mix of warming spices that enhance the flavor and aroma of tea.


Common Ingredients in Chai Masala:

  • Cardamom – Adds a sweet, floral note
  • Cinnamon – Warm and slightly sweet
  • Cloves – Strong, pungent, and slightly bitter
  • Black Pepper – Adds a subtle heat
  • Ginger (dried or fresh) – Spicy and warming
  • Nutmeg – Mildly sweet and nutty (optional)
  • Star Anise – Licorice-like flavor (optional)
  • Fennel Seeds – Slightly sweet and aromatic (optional)

How to Make Chai Masala at Home

  1. Take equal partsof cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper. Add a little more ginger.
  2. Grind them into a fine powder using a spice grinder or mortar and pestle.
  3. Store in an airtight container and use ¼ to ½ teaspoon per cup of chai.

How to Use Chai Masala in Tea

  • Boil water with tea leaves, milk, sugar (or jaggery), and a pinch of chai masala.
  • Simmer for a few minutes and strain before serving.
